Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs “made history” when he judged a rap battle between Ashton Kutcher and James Corden on TV on Tuesday night (12Jun18).
The hip-hop star and The Ranch actor both appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden, and following their interview, Ashton took up the chance to face the TV host as part of the Drop the Mic segment, with Diddy acting as adjudicator.
James kicked off proceedings by referring to Ashton’s former practical joke show Punk’d and his 2013 biographical drama Jobs, based on the life of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.
“I heard I was battling an A-list hunk, but when I saw Ashton Kutcher I knew I was getting Punk’d,” he began. “You haven’t had a hit movie since 2002. You were so bad in Jobs even Siri won’t talk to you.”
Ashton then fired back with several insults, likening James to being the baby of U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korea leader Kim Jong-un, as well as making a reference to his 2000 comedy Dude, Where’s My Car?
“If you couldn’t act, James? That’s the test? The results are in then, it’s time to invest,” the 40-year-old stated. “People see me at valet, they say, ‘Look, it’s a star!’ People see you at valet, they say, ‘Dude, where’s my car?'”
In response, James took aim at some of Ashton’s big feature films, including Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Eve, as well as his TV show Two and a Half Men.
“You joined Two and a Half Men when producers intervened, it’s the only time people thought, ‘Man I miss Charlie Sheen.’ You invested all your money in technology and apps. Hell, I’d do the same thing if I knew I couldn’t act,” he joked.
Once both stars had finished throwing around insults, Diddy was called on to declare the winner and chose James – marking the first time the British star has been victorious in a rap contest.
“First of all, I want to say that was very entertaining. But now to the judges’ cards in one of the closest battles in The Late Late Show history. The winner, by only a half a point, for the very first time in history, James Corden!” he smiled.
