Shania Twain struggled to write and record Soldier song

Shania Twain struggled while writing and recording Soldier for her new comeback album, because she couldn’t get through a verse without breaking down.
The country star, who wrote many of the tracks on the album in the aftermath of her marriage break-up, reveals the song is all about saying goodbye to loved ones – and she really had a problem with the lyrics.
“I cried a little bit off and on throughout the whole writing of the album,” she tells U.S. news show Access Hollywood Live. “It’s a very emotional experience.
“But there’s a song called Soldier and I cried so much… I would write a few words and then I would start crying and I’d have to take a break, and then I’d carry on writing and then I’d have to take another break. It was very emotional writing that song.
“The song is all about letting go and maybe being the last time you ever see someone… I relate it to many people in my life… People that I’ve had to say goodbye to or let go of.
“That song was a journey, emotionally, in itself.”
Twain split from record producer Mutt Lange in 2008, after 14 years of marriage, amid allegations of his infidelity, and they divorced in 2010.
Her comeback album, Shania Now, will be released next month (Sep17).
