Sports star Danica Patrick froze her eggs as an ‘insurance policy’

Top NASCAR driver Danica Patrick has taken steps to freeze her eggs so she doesn’t have to race into motherhood.
The 35-year-old reveals she first underwent the procedure while she was still dating fellow racer Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. in order to have an “insurance policy” for her biological clock.
“A couple years ago, I did an (in vitro fertilisation) treatment to freeze my eggs because I’m getting older and I drive race cars,” she explained on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast.
She admits the process was tough and made her “very uncomfortable” as she gained weight, making her look like she was in the early stages of pregnancy.
“I was huge! I was so uncomfortable,” she added. “It’s horrible!”
Danica, who split from Stenhouse, Jr. in December (17), had 24 eggs removed from her ovaries, but she insists it’s all just a back-up plan in the event she struggles to conceive when she eventually decides she wants to become a mum.
“This is just an insurance policy,” she continued, “it doesn’t mean I can’t try it another way if I wanted to.”
The news emerges after the sportswoman, who plans to retire in May (18), confirmed she is now dating American football star Aaron Rodgers. He previously romanced actress Olivia Munn for three years until early 2017.
