Testosterone supplements gave William Shatner prostate cancer scare

Star Trek icon William Shatner was given a health wake-up call in 2016 after his testosterone supplements wrongly indicated he had prostate cancer.
The veteran actor admits he has “always” had a fear of death, but his stress levels shot up two years ago after a regular blood test check suggested his life really was in danger.
“I was doing testosterone supplements and the possibility of (dying) happened to me…,” he explained on breakfast show Today.
Shatner revealed his hormone levels soared to 10 times the normal rate, and had his doctor so concerned, he began explaining the symptoms and prognosis for prostate cancer sufferers.
“The doctor… was reading out what was going to happen to me…,” he recalled.
Shatner quickly ditched the supplements and was relieved to discover the worrying blood test had been a false-positive result for prostate cancer.
“Then I stopped taking the supplements, and almost immediately, after a period of time, it (testosterone levels) went down… Got rid of that and it was back to normal,” the 87 year old added. “I thought, ‘Wow, what a scare.'”
The medical scare is one of many stories Shatner recounts in his new memoir, Live Long And… What I Learned Along the Way, which was released on 4 September (18).
