The 1975 mock critics at BRIT Awards with ‘hack attack’ set

Rockers The 1975 mocked critics with an odd performance at the BRIT Awards on Wednesday night (22Feb17), which left many viewers thinking their set had been hacked.
The group hit the stage in London to perform their hit The Sound as a screen backdrop flashed up troll-like messages about their music.
It has since emerged the comments were all taken from negative reviews.
One message that was beamed up read: “Do people really still make music like this?”, while another took aim at singer Matt Healy’s “terrible high pitched vocals”.
Many viewers took to Twitter to query the stunt, with some concerned that the TV broadcast of the awards show had been hacked.
“What’s going on with @the1975 at #BRITs2017? Are those captions meant to be ironic? or has @ITV been hacked?!!” one fan queried.
Other fans pointed out the pink and white messages were actually used in the music video for The Sound.
Earlier in the evening, the band picked up the BRIT Award for British Group. Accepting the honour, Healy urged fans to speak up about their political views, stating, “I think people in pop music and in the broader public consciousness are told to stay in your lane when talking about social issues, but if you have a platform don’t do that, please don’t do that.”
