Country music star Tim Mcgraw has led tributes to beloved U.S. politician John Mccain following his brain cancer diagnosis.
The 80-year-old Arizona Senator, who once challenged Barack Obama for the U.S. presidency, underwent surgery to remove a blood clot last Friday (14Jul17), but tests revealed a cancerous brain tumor this week (beg17Jul17).
McGraw took to social media on Thursday (20Jul17) to share his best wishes and prayers.
Posting a black and white photo of his old friend as a young man the singer called the veteran legislator a “real good man”.
The U.S. Navy veteran and war hero also hit social media on Thursday to thank fans for their support.
“I greatly appreciate the outpouring of support – unfortunately for my sparring partners in Congress, I’ll be back soon, so stand-by! he tweeted.
McCain’s wife, Cindy, 63, has also shared a heartfelt post about her husband on Instagram, adding: “Thank all of you for the wonderful thoughts. @senjohnmccain is doing well. We as a family will face the next hurdle together. One thing I do know is he is the toughest person I know. He is my hero and I love him with all my heart.”
President Donald Trump and Obama also took to Twitter to offer their support, with the former leader calling the Senator “an American hero & one of the bravest fighters I’ve ever known”.
