Walton Goggins added to The Maze Runner sequel

Actor Walton Goggins is joining the cast of the delayed The Maze Runner sequel as filming prepares to resume following Dylan O’brien’s on set injury last year (16).
The Teen Wolf actor, the leading star of the post-apocalyptic franchise, had to take some time off to recover after he was run over in a car stunt-gone-wrong during the production of The Maze Runner: The Death Cure in Vancouver, Canada in March, 2016.
O’Brien, who plays Thomas, suffered a “concussion, facial fracture and lacerations”, as well as multiple broken bones in the incident, which prompted filmmakers to shut down the shoot indefinitely.
Last summer (16), studio bosses at 20th Century Fox announced the movie would now be released in early 2018, instead of its previously planned 2017 launch, with cameras expected to begin rolling again in February (17).
Principal photography only began in South Africa in March (17), and now the cast and crew is on track to get back to work, according to Deadline.com.
Meanwhile, The Hateful Eight star Goggins will be a new addition to the line-up, after signing on to portray Lawrence, a character described as “part-revolutionary, part-anarchist”.
Wes Ball is directing The Maze Runner: The Death Cure, which was adapted for the big screen by T.S. Nowlin from author James Dashner’s popular young adult trilogy.
It is the sequel to 2014’s The Maze Runner and 2015’s follow-up, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials.
The latest developments emerge days after O’Brien gave fans a set tour in a preview of the third and final instalment of the film franchise, which aired ahead of the MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday (07May17).
The Maze Runner: The Death Cure is now due to hit theatres in February, 2018.
