Bullies Force Rebecca Black Out of School

We’ve all wanted to exact revenge on the people responsible for first showing us Rebecca Black’s Friday music video on YouTube, and we’ve even wished we had a line of ducklings to punch out when the tune got stuck in our heads. But most of us have never considered harming the innocent songstress as a means of punishing her for getting so excited about Fridays. However, people at Rebecca’s school have started targeting her and bulling her (presumably because she’s now attending Hollywood premieres and is BFFs with Katy Perry) so much that she’s had to withdraw from school completely and enroll in a homeschooling program.

On the comments her peers would make that led to the educational switch, Rebecca recently told ABC’s Nightline “When I walk by they’ll start singing ‘Friday’ in a really nasally voice. Or you know, they’ll be like, ‘Oh hey Rebecca, guess what day it is?'” Her mother, Georgina Marquez, confirmed that Rebecca leaving school was the right decision for their family, saying “[Rebecca] certainly did not need that kind of pressure.” But even though the face-to-face bullying has been addressed, the online bullying is proving harder to prevent. Rebecca said she’s still receiving numerous threats, and people are still spreading rumors about her (one morning in May she woke up and a rumor was all over the internet that claimed she was pregnant). She explained, “Waking up to a rumor that you’re pregnant is not fun. It’s just frustrating, because I mean, I’m still, like, excited over my first kiss.” Oh, you guys, leave her alone. So she has a stupid song on the internet? You still have one of those dancing flowers that wears sunglasses on your night table.

Watch Rebecca’s debut video, Friday, below and tell us if it makes you want to punish her.
