Dangerous weather halts Pitchfork Music Festival

Organisers of the Pitchfork Music Festival were forced to evacuate Union Park in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday (20Jul19) due to “dangerous weather conditions”.
A thunderstorm forced bosses to shut down the site midway through the second day of the weekend event.
“Due to dangerous weather conditions, @PitchforkFest is evacuating. Please calmly and quickly leave the festival grounds and find shelter,” a statement on Twitter read, while an announcement was made during Parquet Courts’ set, cutting their performance short.
Festival bosses then released a statement assuring festivalgoers they were “watching the weather”, adding: “We will let you know soon if we are re-opening the festival”.
After a pause, gates re-opened and the festival continued with sets from Stereolab and Freddie Gibbs.
Meanwhile, another Chicago festival, Mamby on the Beach, has been cancelled due to the presence of endangered birds at the site.
The event, which was scheduled to take place on 23 and 24 August (19), featured Brockhampton, Troye Sivan, and T-Pain among the line-up.
An official statement reads: “These unforeseen issues include significantly higher than average waters of Lake Michigan eliminating the beach portion of our intended site. Additionally, our original footprint was affected by the presence of the Great Lakes Piping Plover shorebirds, a federally protected species.”
Festival organisers attempted to secure an alternative site for their festival but were unsuccessful.
