The former Miami Vice actor was initially taken into custody in July 2006 for allegedly exposing himself in front of viewers at a fireworks display in Lakeport, California.
Lazard disappeared last May (09) and a warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to appear at the Lake County Superior Court in California to face misdemeanour charges of annoying or molesting a child under 18, engaging in lewd conduct in public, and indecent exposure.
According to a police report, the actor was detained by police in New York City on Friday (02Apr10) while attempting to enter the U.S. after returning from the Caribbean. He is being held at New York’s Rikers Island jail pending extradition to California.
Lieutenant Brad Rasmussen of the Lakeport Police Department, says, “Although it’s a misdemeanour, it’s a serious misdemeanour and we consider it a serious offence in our jurisdiction, and we want him to answer to the charges filed again him, which he’s failed to appear for for close to a year at this point.”
