Messing and Mullalley’s Mistletoe Moment

“Crack’d Xmas,” the seventh annual holiday fundraiser benefitting the Trevor Project–a free telephone support line designed to provide help and assistance to young gay people who are struggling and often feeling suicidal as they come to terms with their homosexuality-paid tribute to Will & Grace stars Debra Messing and Megan Mullally, and the two comedy queens–no pun intended-did not fail to raise to the same-sex spirit of the occasion.

After Allison Janney introduced a clip package that featured the women’s funniest moments from the show, including many, many clips of the two kissing or fondling each other’s breasts, the actresses joined each other on stage to accept their awards. Debra began a serious acceptance speech and then suddenly said “I’m sorry, I can’t stop thinking about your mouth.” The two lunged onto each other and began making out passionately for several minutes, knocking their awards off the podium to the wild whoops of the appreciative audience. Debra and Megan stopped kissing collected themselves for a moment, then dove into another lengthy make-out session.

When at last they unlocked lips, Megan said “Is there anything better than making out in front of a room full of queers and half the cast of Desperate Housewives?”

“If there is, I haven’t done it,” Debra replied.

Speaking of those Housewives, Marcia Cross told me her holiday wish after hitting the show’s holiday party later that evening: “I just want to go back to Massachusetts. I just can’t wait to be with my family.” And her co-star Felicity Huffman teamed with Queer Eye For the Straight Guy‘s Carson Kressley to host the live auction, and the two salty, double (and sometimes triple) entendre-laced repartee helped make some major sales: Megan purchased a vacation in Puetra Vallarta for $15,000, and while Debra Messing pushed the bidding for a walk-on appearance on Will & Grace up to $16,000, but even with her connections she didn’t land it: the hotly-contested item was ultimately given to two competing bidders for $17,500 each.

The auction was assisted by several men in glittery Louis XIV-style drag, which gave new meaning to donning gay apparel, and the evening was filled with even more visions of sugar plums-well, sugar plums laced with something-including a Mrs. Swan skit by “Mad TV’s Alex Borstein and the lovely sight of a skimpy Santa-suit-clad Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, dancing with performance artist Lipsynka. “I think there’s enough makeup around here that I don’t need to be giving anybody any tips, y’know what I’m saying?” Elvira told me. “It’s one of the few events where I’m actually wearing less makeup than half of the people here.”

The evening ended on a more refined note when Broadway star Betty Buckley closed the night singing songs including “Send in the Clowns” and “Memories” (her signature hit from “Cats”), her powerful, clear-as-crystal voice inflicting goose bumps upon the audience, especially she briefly sang without the aid of a microphone and still could be heard clearly throughout the theater.

It was a loud and proud holiday evening for everyone involved.
