Munich police label Liam Gallagher’s tooth-pulling tale ‘complete rubbish’

Police in Munich, Germany, have rubbished Liam Gallagher’s claims that he had his teeth “pulled out with pliers” following a fight in the city in 2002.
The then Oasis frontman, 45, was arrested for bodily harm, trespassing and material damage, after a fracas between a group of Italian men, his bandmates and entourage in a hotel and nightclub. He was fined $49,000 (£35,000) over the incident, which led to the cancellation of the group’s German tour and left him needing dental treatment after losing his front teeth.
Recalling details of the brawl, Liam told British newspaper The Guardian he was sitting under a balcony when a man threw a glass table at their heads, sparking a fight as he and other members of the band’s security staff tried to usher them away. The rocker said that in the ensuing melee, he may have kicked a police officer and that he believes that after his arrest his teeth were, “pulled out with pliers by the f**king German police”.
He recalled: “I think they give me a whack over the head in the back of the f**king van and I think they’ve just gone, ‘F**k you, you ****’, later on. Because they were pulled out completely perfect. They were going: ‘Oh, as you were coming up the stairs, you tripped and they whacked on there.’ But they’d have broken, wouldn’t they? You don’t f**king have them completely fall out like that.”
Liam also highlighted his lack of other injuries as an indication that the police’s account doesn’t add up.
However, a spokesperson for the Munich police detailed a different version of events when contacted by Germany’s The Local newspaper, telling the publication: “It was the band who started the fight with a group of Italians in a nightclub.”
The representative added that while it’s not clear exactly how Liam lost his teeth, it was at some point during the fight. They added that his allegation against the police is “complete rubbish”.
“If he wants to do something he should file an official complaint and not tell some story to a newspaper sixteen years later,” the spokesperson concluded.
Liam was arrested along with then Oasis drummer Alan White, and the band’s DJ Phil Smith over the incident. His brother and bandmate Noel was reportedly asleep in his hotel room at the time of the fight.
