The Fury of a Patient Man wins big at Goya Awards

Actor Raul Arevalo’s directorial debut The Fury Of A Patient Man was the toast of the 2017 Goya Awards in Spain on Saturday (04Feb17), when it was named Best Film.
The thriller, about a convicted robber who struggles to escape his dark past after his release from prison, also earned Arevalo the Best New Director title, as well as Best Original Screenplay, a prize shared with co-writer David Pulido, while Manolo Solo nabbed Best Supporting Actor.
Fantasy/drama A Monster Calls, featuring Liam Neeson, Felicity Jones, and Sigourney Weaver, was another big winner, picking up a total of nine accolades at the Spanish version of the Oscars, including Best Director for J.A. Bayona and Best Original Score. The remainder of its awards came in the technical categories.
Emma Suarez was a double honouree at the Madrid ceremony, claiming Best Actress for her work in Pedro Almodovar’s Julieta and Best Supporting Actress in The Next Skin, and Best Actor went to May God Save Us star Roberto Alamo.
Oscar nominee Timecode locked up the Goya accolade for Best Short Film.
