The Sandman adaptation heading to TV

A TV series based on Neil Gaiman’s popular DC Comics book The Sandman is in development at Netflix.
Gaiman will team up with Man of Steel screenwriter David S. Goyer and Wonder Woman’s Allan Heinberg to pen and executive produce the 10-episode series, which follows the adventures of Morpheus, who rules over the world of dreams.
Heinberg will serve as showrunner for the Warner Bros. Television production, which will debut on streaming service Netflix.
“We’re thrilled to partner with the brilliant team that is Neil Gaiman, David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg to finally bring Neil’s iconic comic book series, The Sandman, to life onscreen,” Netflix executive Channing Dungey shares in a statement.
“From its rich characters and storylines to its intricately built-out worlds, we’re excited to create an epic original series that dives deep into this multi-layered universe beloved by fans around the world.”
The news emerges three years after The Dark Knight Rises star Joseph Gordon-Levitt exited a planned film adaptation of The Sandman, which he co-wrote with Goyer, due to creative differences.
It’s the latest of Gaiman’s works to head to TV – he is also the brains behind the works that inspired American Gods, Good Omens, and Lucifer.
