The 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada where he plays Nigel Kipling, Art Director of the magazine where Anne Hathaway’s character works

The 2009 film The Lovely Bones as serial killer George Harvey, a role that got him his first Academy Award nomination in 2009

The Hunger Games film series as Caesar Flickerman, the eccentric host of the annual Hunger Games

CNN’s Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy is not the first time the actor has performed in a foodie-centric role––Tucci played Julia Child’s husband Paul Child in the 2009 film Julie & Julia––but it’s the first time we’re seeing him as himself, exploring the country of his ancestors.

Stanley Tucci: an actor with Italian roots

For Stanley Tucci, Italy is like a second home.

Growing up in an Italian family in New York State, the celeb actor was raised on a mix of classic American food and incredibly authentic Italian food.

At just 12 years old, Tucci’s father––a high school art teacher––took a sabbatical to study art in Florence, Italy, and brought the whole family with him.

Tucci describes the experience in conversation with CNN Travel

“It completely opened my mind to the world…By the time I graduated college, I was aching to go back again, and I felt like I was meant to be there more than I was supposed to be in America. And so, whenever I could, I would go back to Italy.”

What is Stanley Tucci: Searching For Italy about?

Tucci’s early years spent in Italy opened his eyes to the geographical diversity of the country, and how often Americans water down Italian culture to pizza, pasta, and chicken parmesan.

Tucci’s new show “strives to put the record straight about the country he’s descended from on both sides.”

Each episode “offers a gateway through which you can glimpse Italy’s history and culture” by highlighting a different region of the country, starting with Tuscany.

Stanley Tucci leaves us hungry for more

The hardest part about watching Stanley Tucci: Searching For Italy is not being able to fully taste the culinary delights that Tucci gets to experience firsthand. Luckily, CNN offers an episode-by-episode guide to finding some of the authentically Italian dishes shared on-screen.

Maybe you’d prefer to try some authentic Italian recipes? Look no further than Stanley Tucci’s cookbooks!

The Tucci Cookbook features just under 200 recipes plus wine tastings that incorporate his family’s Italian American traditions and stories from his family’s kitchen.

With such deep Italian roots, many have asked––is Stanley Tucci’s wife Italian? Actually, Stanley Tucci’s wife Felicity Blunt is British! The couple met via Tucci’s Devil Wears Prada co-star Emily Blunt (Felicity’s sister!). The two quickly bonded over their mutual love for food

The Tucci Table is a family-focused cookbook that celebrates the recipes of their multi-cultural marriage. Nearly 100 recipes fuse Tucci’s Italian roots with British recipes from Felicity Blunt, all “tied together with a modern American ribbon.” You can get a copy here.

The actor also authored a memoir called Taste: My Life Through Food. The memoir is described as “a reflection on the intersection of food and life, filled with anecdotes…Each morsel of this gastronomic journey through good times and bad, five-star meals and burnt dishes, is as heartfelt and delicious as the last.” You can get a copy here.
