Goodnight Mister Tom filmmaker dead at 85

Revered British moviemaker JACK GOLD has died, aged 85.
A multiple BAFTA winner, Gold began his career behind the scenes at the BBC and went on to work with late acting greats Richard Burton and John Thaw.
But he’s perhaps best known as the director of award-winning movie Goodnight Mister Tom and The Naked Civil Servant, in which John Hurt portrayed Quentin Crisp.
Gold directed Burton in The Medusa Touch and took charge of episodes of beloved British TV series Inspector Morse and Kavanagh QC, featuring his friend Thaw, who also starred in 1998’s Goodnight Mister Tom.
He also directed Peter O’Toole in Man Friday and Anthony Hopkins in The Tenth Man.
