House arrest for police chief in Parker-Broderick surrogate case

Chad Dojack, the chief of police in Bridgeport, eastern Ohio, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanour count of dereliction of duty last Thursday (07Jan10), prompting prosecutors to drop earlier charges of complicity to burglary and complicity to receiving stolen property.

He was sentenced to 50 days of house arrest, three years’ probation and 100 hours of community service on Wednesday (13Jan10).

Dojack was accused alongside Barry Carpenter, the ex-chief of neighbouring Martins Ferry, in an alleged scheme to steal items from the surrogate’s home for profit.

Carpenter was convicted of felony charges and sentenced to two years, eight months in prison.

Bridgeport authorities are reportedly considering whether Dojack should remain chief.
