Songwriter George Jackson dead at 68

Rock and soul songwriter George Jackson has died at the age of 68. The musician passed away at his home in Mississippi on Sunday (14Apr13) after losing his battle with cancer.
Born in Indianola, Jackson began penning music at an early age and was brought to R&B pioneer Cosimo Matassa’s New Orleans studio in 1963 by Ike Turner.
He recorded dozens of songs as an artist but made his mark as a writer, penning tracks for Ike and Tina Turner, James Brown and The Osmonds, who hit number one with his One Bad Apple song in 1970.
Jackson is best known for the track Old Time Rock and Roll, which he penned alongside Thomas Jones III and was recorded by Bob Seger in 1978.
