David O. Russell shuts down production on Boston film

Director David O. Russell has suspended production on his new Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence film in Massachusetts as police continue a massive manhunt in search of a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings. Three people were killed and over 170 more injured on Monday (15Apr13) when two bombs exploded near the finish line of the annual race, and late on Thursday night (18Apr13), cops descended on the nearby suburb of Watertown after engaging in a deadly shoot-out with the two lead suspects, one of whom, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, later died from his injuries.
His brother, 19-year-old Dzhokar Tsarnaev, is still at large, prompting authorities to lock down the city and ask residents to stay indoors until he is captured. As a result of the police drama, Russell cancelled filming on American Hustle on Friday (19Apr13), according to a spokesman from Sony Pictures, the studio behind the movie.
The cast and crew of the the upcoming thriller, which also stars Jeremy Renner and Amy Adams, have been in town filming the movie since last month (Mar12), and on Thursday, Cooper stopped by a local hospital to visit bombing victim Jeff Bauman Jr., who lost both his legs below the knee in Monday’s attack.
