Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon have grown as close as sisters after working together on new TV mini-series Big Little Lies.

The actresses teamed up in 2014 to option the rights to Australian author Liane Moriarty’s book of the same name, and they served as co-executive producers on the show, in which they also star.

Big Little Lies, which centres on three murderous kindergarten mothers, is the first project Nicole and Reese have worked on together and the actresses built up such a strong bond both on and off set, they now feel just like siblings.

Reese, 40, sat down to interview her co-star for an interview on Good Morning America, and during the chat, the Wild star admitted Nicole, 49, had long been one of her acting inspirations.

“We didn’t know each other very well before we started,” she explained, “but… I always looked up to you, you’re such an incredible actress.”

“I call myself your big sister now!,” Nicole smiled, making it clear the admiration was mutual.
Having another Oscar winner on hand to bounce ideas off also proved vital for Reese as she tried to get to grips with her character Madeline Martha Mackenzie.

She added, “I’ve never had the experience of working with another woman so closely that I got to call you and say, ‘What do you think I should do with this character? I don’t like this scene and I don’t know how to play this.'”

The limited series, penned by Ally McBeal creator David E. Kelley, also stars Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoe Kravitz, and was directed by Dallas Buyers Club filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallee.
Big Little Lies will debut on America’s HBO network this Sunday (19Feb17).
