Charlize Theron is set to be honored with the 2019 American Cinematheque Award.
The 43-year-old actress, producer and humanitarian was selected by the non-profit arts organization for her efforts as an “extraordinary filmmaker in the entertainment industry”.
Announcing the star as the recipient of the prestigious accolade, American Cinematheque chairman Rick Nicita said Theron was the unanimous choice of their board of directors.
“Charlize Theron is making a significant contribution to the art of motion pictures while breaking through outmoded limitations on what an actress and producer can do,” he gushed. “It is obvious from her career that her immense talent cannot be categorized or confined.”
Last year (18) A Star Is Born actor Bradley Cooper was honored with the award, while previous recipients of the prize include Steven Spielberg, Julia Roberts, Samuel L. Jackson, and Amy Adams.
The South African-born star won the Best Actress Oscar for her depiction of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the 2003 biographical crime drama Monster, and most recently starred opposite Seth Rogen in romantic comedy Long Shot. Next up for the mother-of-two is voicing Morticia Adams in The Addams Family, and playing former Fox News journalist Megyn Kelly in a biopic of the network’s controversial late boss Roger Ailes.
A second honor, the yet-to-be-announced Sid Grauman Award, will also be presented at the gala benefit, which raises funds for the cultural organization’s year-round programming.
This year’s ceremony is set to take place on November 8, 2019, at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles.
