Richard Pryor‘s daughter is starring in a stage show detailing what is was like
growing up with the veteran comedian amid drug abuse and a parade of
prostitutes.
Fried Chicken and Latkes (corr) is a one-woman production in which Rain
Pryor, 35, reveals details of her life with renowned hellraiser Richard–who
once set himself on fire while freebasing cocaine in 1980.
But Rain, who herself was a drug addict before she got clean in 1993–was
determined to make the show her own.
The 35-year-old says, “I decided I’m going to fill my own shoes. I’m not
going to do his comedy.
“My dad has always been one to put his life right out there for you to look
at. I took that approach because I saw how well audiences respond to it. I try
to make you laugh at life.”
Fried Chicken and Latkes is currently touring theatres across America.
