Emily Ratajkowski earned praise from Melania Trump for calling out a journalist’s sexist comment about America’s First Lady.

The model turned actress, 25, wrote on Twitter she had been sitting next to a writer from the New York Times at the Grammy Awards who had allegedly called Melania a “prostitute”.

The U.S. First Lady thanked the Gone Girl star for speaking up for her, writing, “Applause to all women around the world who speak up, stand up and support other women! @emrata (Emily’s Twitter username) #PowerOfEveryWoman #PowerOfTheFirstLady.”

On Monday (13Feb17), the day after Sunday’s (12Feb17) Grammys ceremony, Emily wrote on Twitter, “Sat next to a journalist from the NYT last night who told me “Melania is a hooker.” Whatever your politics it’s crucial to call this out for what it is: sl*t shaming. I don’t care about her nudes or sexual history and no one should.”

She added, “Gender specific attacks are disgusting sexist bulls**t.”

As a young model Melania appeared topless in a number of men’s magazines before marrying her billionaire husband in 2005.

Emily’s defence of the First Lady is all the more remarkable as she joined last month’s (Jan17) Women’s March protesting against the new administration of Melania’s husband.

During his victorious campaign to become America’s leader, President Trump was accused of sexism and faced allegations that he had sexually harassed multiple women.

A tape released during the campaign showed that in 2005, months after his marriage to Melania, Trump had bragged to U.S. TV host Billy Bush that he could “grab” women “by the p**sy”.

His administration has also provoked opposition from feminists for cutting off funds for charities which provide women access to abortion and other means of birth control.
