Singer Melissa Etheridge considered actor pal Brad Pitt as a potential sperm donor for her two children.
The Come to My Window star began dating Julie Cypher in 1988 and the former couple welcomed its first child, Bailey Jean, in 1997. Beckett was born a year later and both children were fathered by sperm donor and Crosby, Stills & Nash musician David Crosby. Melissa now reveals Brad was an option before David because of his strong desire to have children.
“Well actually, he (Brad Pitt) was such a good friend of mine,” she tells Studio 10, “and we did consider it and and yet, I looked and I saw how badly he wanted children and I thought, ‘I don’t want to share this with someone who really, badly wants children because my children don’t need another parent – they have two’.”
But now her teenagers tease her for not picking Brad as their dad.
“Of course, my teenagers now are like, ‘I could have had Brad Pitt (as my dad),” she continues. “My son said, ‘I could’ve been amazingly handsome!'”
However, she is grateful David agreed to father her children because she feels the family dynamic is a perfect fit.
“It’s one of the reasons why David Crosby and his wife are so perfect – because they (already) had children,” she explains. “They were looking to do this as a gift. And my children are lovely and gorgeous anyway.”
Brad now has six children with his wife Angelina Jolie and the actress thinks there is nothing more attractive than seeing her husband with their children.
“It’s such a beautiful and sexy quality in a man when he takes his responsibilities as a father very seriously…,” she said in 2014. “I still get very emotional when I watch Brad play with the children – he is so naturally devoted and joyful around them.”
