Steven Spielberg named Filmmaker of the Year

The Oscar-nominated director will be presented with the Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year trophy at the 63rd annual ACE Eddie Awards in Los Angeles on 16 February (13) – just eight days before the Academy Awards.

A statement from the ACE Board of Directors reads, “Steven Spielberg is a cinematic treasure. For over four decades he has been moving audiences around the world with his unique, powerful brand of storytelling. As one of the most successful directors in history, he has brought us beloved films, which have not only delighted us but have been indelibly woven into our cultural fabric.”

Spielberg’s latest release Lincoln has been tipped for Oscars glory – the historical drama is up for 12 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor for Daniel Day-Lewis, who plays former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln.

The ACE, which is comprised of more than 700 editors working in film and TV, last year (12) gave the Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year prize to The Descendants director Alexander Payne.
