Over the weekend, the men behind The Walking Dead, creator Robert Kirkman and director Frank Darabont were very open about their direction for season two of the hit show. Since we won’t really get a taste of more zombie action until the premiere on Halloween, these little nuggets of intel will have to do.
First, we can be sure that Andrew Lincoln’s handsome leading man, Rick, will be safe. Darabont says they are building the show around him, so it would make little sense for them to off him any time soon. This also means there will be more room for the Lori-Rick-Shane debacle. Darabont hinted that Lori may just be pregnant and that could raise some eyebrows and Shane may be getting his own lady friend which could add even more complication if the mystery baby is his and not Ricks. Does your head hurt yet? Of course, Darabont won’t own to any of this being set in stone, it’s all in theory but it’s already got my brain going (mmm, BRAINNNSSS) so it might just work.
As for the landscape next season, Darabont says there won’t be an explanation of the zombie breakout and there will be little time between the last scene from the finale and the opening scene from season two, but that we should expect to lose a few familiar faces and gain some new characters much like the original comic book series does.
The real interesting bit here is Kirkman’s interest in adding Charlie Sheen on to do “whatever he wants.” I hope to God he’s joking — unless Sheen will go on as a zombie that meets some movie-worthy, super destructive end — because you don’t offer up the option for Sheen to do whatever he wants. He’ll take it. Have you seen how many shows and interviews he’s done just last week? Seriously, do not give this guy and inch because he’ll take over the whole world and that’s almost worse than the pesky brain-munching undead set.
