John Greyson released from Egyptian prison

Canadian director John Greyson has been released from prison in Egypt after almost two months behind bars. The filmmaker and his travelling companion Dr. Tarek Loubani were detained in Cairo on 16 August (13) as they made their way to Gaza, where Greyson was set to shoot footage, while Loubani took part in a medical aid project.
They complained that they were held without charge and began a hunger strike last month (Sep13) in protest at their treatment.
The pair was freed on Saturday (06Oct13), with Greyson’s sister Cecilia tweeting, “Christmas comes early this year! Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to free john and tarek.”
Canada’s minister of state for foreign affairs Lynne Yelich adds in a statement, “I look forward to Dr. Loubani and Mr. Greyson being reunited with their families and friends, who have shown tremendous strength during this difficult time.”
