Katy Perry was set to make a guest appearance on Sesame Street. Same old, same old. Celebrities make appearances all the time on the long running children show – they gotta keep the parents entertained as well, though it’s mostly boring since it’s for kids anyway. Unless it’s Ricky Gervais in which case it’s actually kind of brilliant. But then her appearance was released on YouTube prior to the episode airing and some parents caught word of it.
Needless to say, they were not to pleased with what they saw. And enough of them complained to Sesame Street that her part has been cut from the episode for displaying a bit too much cleavage. Booooooo!
Shame on whoever complained! I’ll go ahead and make a wide and unsupported claim that every father who watched that clip would have enjoyed it incredibly. I know I did. Sure, the song isn’t great, but come on, Katy Perry isn’t trying to revolutionize the art. She does what she does and she shows off her cleavage. Sesame Street should have seen this coming. And besides, that dress is tame compared to what she normally wears.
Let’s be sensible people. A revealing dress will not single-handedly destroy a child’s innocence and being over protective is probably more harmful than allowing them to look at a woman who is perfectly comfortable with her body and showing it off. The song, however, will probably cause some permanent damage if only for that horrendous rhyme scheme.
