Maxwell found stardom not just as a professional football player, but also as an entertainer. He had a part on the television special "R & B '97: Year in Review" (1997-98). Early in his acting career, Maxwell could be seen on award shows like "The 39th Annual Grammy Awards" (1996-97), "Soul Train Music Awards: 11th Anniversary" (1996-97), "The 1997 MTV Video Music Awards" (1997-98), and "The 40th Annual Grammy Awards" (1997-98). As a composer, Maxwell created music for "Love Jones" (1997). In the nineties and the early 2000s, Maxwell devoted his time to various credits, such as "Life" with Eddie Murphy (1999), "The Best Man" (1999), the Will Smith and Eva Mendes blockbuster "Hitch" (2005) and "Stomp the Yard" (2007) starring Columbus Short.
