Celebrity chef, TV personality and restaurant owner Paula Deen and her brother, Earl W. “Bubba” Hiers, have been hit with a lawsuit by a former employee at one of their restaurants.
Lisa Jackson, former general manager at Uncle Bubba’s Seafood and Oyster House in Savannah, Ga., claims in her lawsuit that Hiers’ “conduct was even physically threatening and universally humiliating. The staff … lived in fear of Bubba Hiers.”
Jackson also alleges that Hiers would regularly look at pornographic Web sites on the restaurant’s kitchen computer — without logging out afterward — and force female managers to wear covered-up attire because of “fat girls” Hiers thought were showing too much skin.
Furthermore, according to Jackson’s attorney, Wesley Woolf, the problems were repeatedly brought to the attention of Deen — who herself stands accused of making racist jokes — but nothing was ever done.
