U.S. public TV pioneer Richard Heffner has died at the age of 88. Heffner passed away on Wednesday (18Dec13) from a cerebral haemorrhage in New York.
He was known for being an advocate for public TV and helped to establish the first Public Broadcasting Station in New York.
He also created and hosted public affairs show The Open Mind, on which he interviewed civil rights leader Malcolm X and former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, among many others.
Heffner also served as chairman of the Classification and Rating Administration of the Motion Picture Association of America from 1974 to 1994.
