Samuel Goldwyn, Jr. dies

American film producer Samuel Goldwyn, Jr. has died, aged 88. He passed away on Friday (09Jan15) of congestive heart failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, his son John Goldwyn, who is also a film producer, told The New York Times.
Son of movie pioneer Samuel Goldwyn, who produced hits such as Wuthering Heights, The Pride of the Yankees, The Best Years of Our Lives, and Guys and Dolls, he followed in his father’s footsteps and built a glittering Hollywood career.
He received a best picture Oscar nomination for 2003’s Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, and was a producer on The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn, Mystic Pizza, and The Preacher’s Wife, and co-produced his father’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty in 2013, starring Ben Stiller.
Goldwyn, Jr. also founded the Samuel Goldwyn Company in 1979 and then went on to launch indie producer-distributor Samuel Goldwyn Films.
