Sebastian Gutierrez needs donations to put indie movie in theatres

The director is hoping to raise $50,000 (£31,250) so he can get his independently financed detective film, starring Malin Akerman, Danny DeVito and Rosario Dawson, into cinemas in New York and Los Angeles.

He has started up a page on fundraising website Kickstarter.com to reach his goal by 5 October (12).

In a message posted to fans, he writes, “The movie is finished. And we are so goddamn proud of it. It’s got amazing performances and cool-as-hell black and white cinematography… We need to put the movie in a theater in New York and LA because ideally, we want this movie… (in) good old fashioned, popcorn-serving movie theaters.”

Gutierrez is hoping to eventually screen the thriller across the U.S., adding, “We believe that a run in New York and LA – while fantastic – could be the start of something bigger. An old-school grass roots movement to roll the movie out theatrically in other cities. Make no mistake, it’s not like we don’t love the superhero movies crowding every screen, it’s just that it’d be cool to have other options too.”
