Biography

A major figure of the dance music landscape of the early 2010s, Skrillex enjoyed a meteoric rise from relative obscurity on the Los Angeles club scene to the top of the electronica charts with such high-intensity EP releases as Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites (2010) and Bangarang (2012). After a brief tenure as singer for the punk group From First to Last, Skrillex delved into electronic music, where his sonic approach - a heart-stopping fusion of catchy melodies that careened against shuddering bass lines - quickly won him favor among the genre's listeners and observers. His second EP, Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites, solidified his star status by capturing a Grammy Award, while his fourth EP, Bangarang, underscored his acceptance in the mainstream by breaking into the Top 20 on the pop charts. Within a period of just three years, Skrillex - along with his DJ peer Deadmau5 - had become one of the world's foremost DJs, a hard-fought position in the relentlessly protean field of dance music.
