Stephen Baldwin arrested for tax evasion

The Usual Suspects star was taken into custody on Thursday (06Dec12) after allegedly failing to pay up more than $350,000 (£218,750) in back taxes between 2008 and 2010.

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe tells TMZ.com, “At a time when Rockland County and New York State face severe fiscal shortfalls, we cannot afford to allow wealthy residents to break the law by cheating on their taxes.

“The defendant’s repetitive failure to file returns and pay taxes over a period of several years contributes to the sweeping cutbacks and closures in local government and in our schools.”

If convicted, Baldwin faces up to four years behind bars. He is due back in court in February (13).

This is the latest in a string of legal problems for the star, who filed for bankruptcy in 2009 – he was arrested in August (12) for allegedly driving on a suspended licence and making an illegal turn.
