Ashley Judd directing short film

The star, a prominent campaigner for women’s rights, is contributing to U.S. network Lifetime’s ongoing series of short films in support of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation.

Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore and singer Alicia Keys were among the five stars who stepped behind the camera last year (11) for the Five project, and now TV bosses are producing a second project, titled Five More, with Judd at the helm.

Her film, Maggie, focuses on females in the U.S. military.

In a series of Twitter.com posts, the Double Jeopardy star writes, “My short film is about PTSD resulting from military sexual trauma (MST). 1/3 of all US servicewomen are raped by fellow American soldiers. There are roughly 52 sexual assaults per day in our military. And yet, the DoD (Department of Defense) says assault is under-reported by 86%!”

Judd has recruited Brittany Snow and Jennifer Hudson to star in the film, which went before cameras on Sunday (18Nov12) and she is already taken with the job of filmmaker: “I am all over this directing thing! Being an actor does make a huge difference.”

She has tweeted, “@brittanysnow & @iamjhud were a director’s dream today! Interesting, powerful, ultimately very moving scene. Loving this job!”
