Australian paparazzo defends himself after Joel Madden altercation

Australia’s most-notorious paparazzo has defended himself after a lunchtime altercation with rocker-turned-TV personality Joel Madden. Jamie Fawcett, who has had run-ins with Nicole Kidman and Melanie Brown Down Under, was snapped coming face to face with the Good Charlotte frontman, who spotted the cameraman trying to get shots of him dining with his wife Nicole Richie and their kids at the Catalina in Rose Bay, Sydney on Wednesday (15May13).
But the lensman insists he was doing nothing illegal and didn’t deserve a tongue-lashing from Madden.
Fawcett tells the Sydney Daily Telegraph, “He attacked me for no reason… I tend to be the target of these kinds of celebrity fracas. They figure if they target me they target everyone.
“Did I do anything to aggravate him? Nothing more than my mere presence, along with six other photographers.”
A spokeswoman for Madden’s Aussie employer, Channel 9, says, “It is disappointing that these photographers choose to intrude so forcefully into people’s private times with young children around. Parents will always want to protect their children.”
