Jailed Wall Street conman Bernie Madoff is recovering after suffering a heart attack last month (Dec13), according to a U.S. report. The 75-year-old fraudster fell ill in his cell at the Butner Federal Correctional Complex in North Carolina and was transferred to a nearby hospital, according to CNBC.
Madoff has also reportedly been diagnosed with a kidney disease.
Prison officials and his lawyer have declined to comment about his condition.
Madoff, a former top financier and investment advisor, is serving a 150-year prison term for stealing billions of dollars from wealthy clients such as Steven Spielberg, John Malkovich and Kevin Bacon.
