Bollywood star Anand dies

The actor/director passed away in a London hotel on Saturday night (03Dec11) after travelling to the city for a medical check-up

His nephew, film director Shekhar Kapur, confirmed the news in a post on Twitter.com. He writes, “Dev Anand lived (and) died at (sic) his own terms. He was working one minute. Sat down and smiled. And was gone the next. So much 2 (to) learn.”

Anand enjoyed a career spanning more than 65 years and his most famous movies included Guide, Paying Guest and Jewel Thief. He continued directing up until this year (11) and his final film, Chargesheet, was released in September (11).

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was among the first to pay tribute to Anand, writing in a series of posts on Twitter, “Had just met Dev… at his premiere recently… he was weak but full of spirit… Sad… An era has come to an end… Dev Anand leaves a void never perhaps to be filled again… His never give up belief (sic), his joy of life!”
