Britney Makes Like the Whitney

In the grand tradition of Elvis Presley and Liberace, Britney Spears is about to become a museum. That’s right, plans are currently under way to put together a venue dedicated to the life and career (such as they are) of the 18-year-old popster in the city of Kentwood, La. — aka the “Oops!…I Did It Again” chart-topper’s hometown.

The Britney Spear Museum will be an add on to the town’s military history-themed Kentwood Museum. (See the connection? Well, no, neither do we.)

The wing will be divided into three sections chronicling the popstress’ personal and family history; her time on Disney’s “The Mickey Mouse Club;” and her current status as a teenybopper superstar.

According to Britney Spears Museum co-coordinator Sandy Reed, the Britney wing will probably take up half of the Kentwood Museum’s existing space. (Who needs military history?) It will exhibit personal items such as clothes and gold and platinum albums donated by the singer. And like all legitimate museums, it will also feature a gift shop.

“A lot of people have called or inquired to see if they can buy or see something of Britney Spears,” Reed tells Hollywood.com. “Our main reason for doing [the museum] is that we want to have something in town for people and tourists to see.”

“And Britney is 100 percent supporting us in this.”

The museum is the brainchild of Reed (also the head of Kentwood Museum) and Kentwood town official Kathy Bryan. The two have been toying with the idea for about a year.

Reed estimates that the museum will probably have its grand opening early next year. While she hopes that Spears herself will be in attendance for the unveiling, she understands that the singer is very “busy.”

But Reed adds that they will definitely try to work the inauguration around the singer’s schedule.

Well, in a couple more years, they might not even have to wait.
