American audiences agree: Nothing is more potent than the combo of greed and fame.
ABC’s sign-of-the-time gameshow “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” clobbered its May sweeps competition with its just-concluded celebrity installments that ran nightly from Monday to Thursday. Wednesday’s edition, in fact, gave the network its biggest audience for a nonsports show since 1983.
With the impressive results, word is that ABC’s already planning to bring back the stars for another sweeps run in November.
“The ratings was great, the celebrities had a lot of fun, and it was for charity,” ABC spokeswoman Mozell Miley told Hollywood.com today. “The idea [of an encore celeb week] has been considered, but it hasn’t been confirmed.”
Here’s a final rundown of how this week’s celebrity contestants did (all winnings went to the players’ charities of choice):
Drew Carey: $500,000
Rosie O’Donnell: $500,000
