The 93-year-old star was reportedly fighting for her life at a hospital in California on Friday (23Jul10) just days after undergoing hip-replacement surgery, with some online reports suggesting she had suffered a stroke.
A statement from Gabor’s publicist, John Blanchette, sparked fears for the worst by revealing the Hollywood veteran is in a “critical condition” at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
He explained, “She is still in the hospital in critical condition. Her husband talked to her doctors yesterday and they said that she is not responding and not communicating.”
Gabor’s husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, added, “The doctors want to observe her over the weekend to make sure her condition improves, but right now it is not looking good.”
But the actress’ daughter, Constance Francesca Hilton, contradicted the reports in a statement to Reuters, claiming her mother is recovering well.
She said, “She is not in a coma. She is not on any kind of death watch. She is responsive and on medications. All vital signs are still going strong, and she is talking.”
