Conrad Murray cried at Michael Jackson trial verdict

Michael Jackson’s incarcerated physician Conrad Murray cried tears of relief when the verdict in the singer’s wrongful death trial was announced on Wednesday (02Oct13). The cardiologist, who refused to testify, is currently serving time for involuntary manslaughter after he was convicted of administering the fatal dose of anaesthetic that claimed the King of Pop’s life in June, 2009. He admits that when a Los Angeles jury ruled that he was not “unfit or incompetent to perform the work for which he was hired” in court on Wednesday, he broke down.
Addressing the verdict, the disgraced doctor insists the trial allowed people to hear some previously unheard information about the pressures he faced as Jackson’s medic.
In a phone interview with U.S. breakfast show Today on Thursday (03Oct13), he said, “My immediate reaction was one of tears, suddenly I cried… I’m not taking sides in this matter… (but) I cried because, for once, the world was allowed to hear some of the facts that have pertained to this matter (Jackson’s treatment and death).
“A lot of facts had been suppressed, much of which I was denied and my attorneys could not present during my criminal trial, that I was not given a fair chance to defend myself… based upon the rulings of the court.
“I was very relieved that at least the world had the chance of hearing some of the facts…”
Murray went on to blast the wrongful death lawsuit, brought against AEG Live by Jackson’s mother Katherine and his three kids, calling it “frivolous”, and adding, “I have felt clearly that the Lord has always been with me and I believe this was part of my recognition that you had to wait on the Lord, you just have to know that he is there for you and he is going to deliver his justice on his time.”
Murray is due to be released from Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail on 28 October (13) and he can’t wait to get a fresh start: “First of all when I get out of jail I want to be able to embrace my children, I want to be able to reunite with my family and close friends and all the angels that have been sent to my life and have been giving me encouragement and support through this whole process. I will restart my life and, God willing, I will be a model to show the world that despite adversity and when bad things happen to good people, they can restart their life and succeed.”
