Darius Rucker mentors singer after diner meeting

Singer/songwriter Darius Rucker is mentoring a wannabe country star after she impressed him by singing a song in the middle of a crowded restaurant. Fledgling musician Fiona Culley seized the moment when she saw Rucker dining with his manager in London’s Soho district, and she began performing a rendition of Strangers & Angels by Kara DioGuardi close to his table.
The Hootie & the Blowfish frontman was so impressed, he flew the British singer out to Nashville, Tennessee to record a duet with him, and they are now eyeing a tour together next year (14).
Culley tells the London Evening Standard, “It’s definitely fate because I’ve been singing country music forever and to have one of the biggest country artists in the world just sat there and to have someone go, ‘Ok, I’m going to talk to you,’ – he was more shocked than me, he was just minding his own business.
“But sometimes you’ve got to do these things, you never know what will happen… He says I remind him of a young Reba McEntire and that I have something really special.”
