Disney Bosses Developing Live-Action ‘Mulan’ Movie

Disney bosses are bringing another animated classic back to the big screen with a live-action version of Mulan.

The 1998 hit film, about Chinese war heroine Hua Mulan, will be retold to a new generation of viewers thanks to writing duo Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek, who have penned the script, and We’re the Millers‘ Chris Bender and J.C. Spink, who will produce the project. The animated film, in which actress Ming-Na Wen voiced the title character, earned Golden Globe and Oscar nominations and grossed more than $304 million (£190 million) at the global box office.

Disney’s new project is the latest in the company’s decision to bring back animated favourites as live-action films. Disney has had hits with the retelling of movies such as Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent and the most recent film, Cinderella, which has already taken in more than $336 million (£210 million) since its release earlier this month (Mar15).
