Early Radiohead demo tape heading for auction block

A rare demo tape featuring early recordings by British rockers Radiohead is expected to fetch more than $1,500 (£1,000) when it goes up for auction in September (13). The nine-track cassette includes six songs that have not been included on any of the band’s official releases, such as Fragile Friend, Everybody Knows and Lock the Door, although they have previously leaked online.
The tracks were recorded in the mid-1980s when the group, fronted by Thom Yorke, was known as On A Friday, and auction boss Paul Fairweather reveals the music belonged to a former schoolmate of theirs.
He tells NME.com, “It has come directly from an old friend of the band who was at school with them at Abingdon School. We have copies of his school yearbook from 85/86 showing him and all four members of the band.”
The sale is due to take place on 14 September (13) at Omega Auctions in Stockport, England.
Other items up for grabs at the event will include handwritten lyrics by British singer Pete Doherty and one of his paintings.
