Ellen Pompeo is set to become the highest-paid actress in television after signing a groundbreaking new deal with bosses at ABC Studios.

The Grey’s Anatomy star has signed on for another two seasons of the hit medical drama and is expected to make over $550,000 per episode.

Ellen will also serve as the co-producer on Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes’ upcoming spin-off.

Speaking of her new deal, which will extend her run as Meredith Grey for a 15th and 16th season of the show, she says, “I was really excited of (sic) having a whole, completely new, fresh voice to write the show. The writing is a lot smarter.

“I’ve been saying since season one, ‘We have two more years’. This show, it’s taking on a life of its own, and who knows? We take it season by season really.”

And the actress tells Deadline.com her onscreen career may end with the medical drama: “Producing and directing is where I’m challenged and where I’m learning,” she shares. “Acting, I don’t know. If the right role comes along, and it’s interesting, then never say never, but I do have three kids. I don’t necessarily want to travel around. I wouldn’t say it’s my burning desire to go act in something else.”
