Estevez’s pilgrimage movie was full of divine moments

The Breakfast Club cast his father Martin Sheen in the film, which chronicles one man’s religious journey through Europe to scatter his dead son’s ashes.

Sheen’s character attempts a 497-mile (800-kilometre) walk from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in France to the Spanish town of Santiago de Compostela, where the remains of St. James, the apostle of Jesus, are believed to be buried.

And Estevez insists there was a “spiritual element” throughout the shoot.

He says, “I like to call it providence but there was definitely a divine intervention throughout the entire shoot. We were warned about filming in the north of Spain at that particular time of year because they said it would rain every day. It rained twice and (on) both of those days we were shooting interiors. We just had that charmed experience throughout.”
