Figure skating superstar pulls out of Olympics, retires

Beloved Russian figure skater Evgeni Plushenko has retired from the sport after pulling out of the Sochi Winter Olympics. The 31-year-old four-time Olympic medallist withdrew from the men’s event on Thursday (13Feb14) and then announced he would never compete again.
Reports suggest a nagging back injury prompted his decision.
After announcing his intention to withdraw from the competition to judges, Plushenko told reporters, “I think it’s (injury) God saying, ‘Evgeni, enough, enough with skating… I have 12 surgeries. I’d like to be healthy.”
Plushenko helped Team Russia win gold at the beginning of this year’s Winter Games with a stunning skating display that left many fans breathless.
