Gary Barlow steps in to save Blackpool Illuminations concert

Take That star Gary Barlow stepped in to headline a concert marking the annual Blackpool Illuminations switch-on in England on Friday night (30Aug13) after rockers The Script pulled at the last minute. The Irish band cited a “serious family illness” as the reason for the decision to step down, and Barlow offered his help via Twitter if organisers of the event made a donation to Children in Need.
Barlow, who switched on the lights in 1999, said, “I went there on holiday as a kid and it is a very fond place for me.
“When I saw the news that they had lost The Script I thought I am going to see if I can do this. When the council said they would make a donation for BBC Children In Need, I decided I’m there.”
The Script were also forced to scrap a gig in Leeds, England on Thursday (29Aug13).
